CASE STUDY

Easthampstead Park Hotel

Easthampstead Park is a Grade II listed Victorian mansion set in 80 acres of woodland, parkland, and formal gardens in the Berkshire countryside. As a hotel and events venue, it has been thoughtfully restored to offer guests the grandeur of a historic country house alongside the comfort and facilities of a contemporary hotel.

The Client

The building itself sets the tone for everything within it. Original architectural details, generous proportions, and a strong sense of place mean that every design decision carries weight. When the hotel undertook its refurbishment, finding the right flooring partner was not simply a matter of specification. It required someone who understood the building and what it deserved.

The Brief

Eaton Square was brought in to work alongside in-house interior designer Lauren Roberts, whose vision for the hotel was grounded in a genuine respect for the building's age and character. The flooring brief was wide-ranging, covering custom carpeting for the corridors, bedroom suites, and lounge areas, as well as bespoke rugs designed to feel at home within a Victorian mansion while still feeling fresh and considered rather than simply period in style.

Alongside the carpeting, Eaton Square was also tasked with restoring the original oak flooring in the suites and dining areas. This was not a minor addition to the scope. It required a careful and considered approach, one focused on preserving what was already there rather than replacing it, and bringing it back to a standard that would do justice to the building and hold up to the demands of daily hotel use for years to come.

Our Approach

The design process was a close collaboration from the outset. Working directly with Lauren Roberts, Eaton Square's team developed custom templated carpet designs for each area of the hotel, with patterns and colourways chosen to complement the specific atmosphere and function of every space rather than applying a single solution throughout.

A key part of the process was the provision of large samples at the design stage, allowing Lauren and the team to review, refine, and adjust each design before anything went into production. In a building of this character, where the details matter as much as the broader decisions, this kind of iterative process is not a luxury. It is simply the right way to work.

Preserving Craftsmanship

Over 4,500 metres of carpeting was ultimately designed, manufactured, and installed across the property, covering the corridors, bedroom suites, lounge areas, meeting rooms, and beyond. Each area received its own treatment, with the flooring developed to sit naturally within the space rather than impose upon it.

The oak restoration work called for a different discipline entirely. Rather than laying new flooring over what was there, the brief was to recover and restore the original, preserving the craftsmanship of the Victorian building while returning it to a condition worthy of a hotel of this quality. It is the kind of work that rarely gets noticed by guests, which is precisely the point.

"The bespoke carpets Eaton Square designed with me have made a huge statement throughout the hotel. They were able to provide large samples so we could tweak to get them just right, and the quality is incredible."
